Abstract
With the development of computer technology, the overlapping computation with communication has been continuously developed and widely applied in the process of computer development from single machine to supercomputer. The degree of parallelization is getting higher and higher, and the data volume of communication between nodes is getting larger and larger. Communication overhead becomes an important factor affecting parallel computing. The overlapping computation with communication is an important way to solve the excessive communication overhead in parallel computing. This paper first introduces the development history of overlapping computation with communication, including hardware optimization compiler upgrade and task optimization scheduling. For the development of numerical weather prediction models, the wide application of overlapping with computation and communication can effectively reduce the communication overhead and improve the computational efficiency of the models. Due to the increasing parallelism of numerical weather prediction models and the increasing communication cost, more and more application scenarios of computation and communication overlap, which can be effectively realized by grouping computation and communication. There is more communication in the three-dimensional data redistribution of spectral mode, which is the direction of performance optimization by overlapping computation with communication in the future.
