Abstract
Photovoltaic (PV) system generally works in natural environment. Pollutants in the atmosphere usually diminish the power generation of PV system, and that could lead to economic losses directly. In order to minimize the economic losses caused by soiling, the specific PV system cleaning event have to be adjusted to each site, as cleaning even is only profitable when the cost of cleaning is lower than the revenues from energy recovery. In current studies, the cleaning strategy model was studied under the assumption that the dust deposited on the photovoltaic system surface was uniformly distributed. However, as to the installation way of the PV module and the climate characteristics in each site, the accumulation of dust on the surface of the PV module displayed nonuniformity distribution characteristics, and that inevitably resulted in different cleaning costs. In this paper, a novel cleaning strategy simulating model is proposed based on soiling nonuniformity characteristics in large utility-scale and residential-scale roof PV system cases, and that optimized cleaning revenue rate by cleaning mode at the difference cases can be simulated and quantified.
