Abstract
The question of retrievieng spatial information of sea surface heights from aerial photographs is considered. With some siiplifying assumptions, a one-dimensional model for the problem is proposed and a numerical relation between the surface height autocorrelation and the autocorrelation of the intensity variations in the photograph is found. Furthermore, it is possible to invert numerically the relation to estimate the former from the latter. The results are supported with a computer simulated example.
