Abstract
Gabor invented holography in order to overcome the limitations found in electron microscopy due to the unavoidable spherical aberration. However, in those days, electron wave optics were not yet sufficiently developed to reach this goal. Meanwhile, using modern electron microscopes and numerical image processing facilities, electron holography is going to meet the early expectations in that it is just about to cross the resolution limit of today's conventional electron microscopy.
