Abstract
We report on the investigation of the feasibility of deploying low-cost uncooled Fabry-Perot (FP) lasers for upstream QPSK data transmission in hybrid fiber/coax (HFC) access networks. In addition, for a representative HFC network comprising of 480 users, we also present analytical results, based on traffic engineering techniques, to compute the maximum attainable throughput of the upstream HFC segment and estimates of the peak bit rate per user, if QPSK transmission is employed in the 5 - 40 MHz upstream frequency band.
