Abstract
Low-level features such as the color, texture and shape of objects have been widely studied for similarity search in image indexing and retrieval. A new color indexing scheme based on the octree quantization scheme is proposed in this research to achieve efficient multi-resolution image retrieval. The new color feature not only integrates commonly used color features such as the color histogram and dominant color, but also support a selective filtering strategy to speed up the retrieval process. It can also be further combined with other visual features to facilitate similarity searching. Extensive experiments are performed to illustrate the performance of the proposed approach.
