Abstract
Discharges have been guided by a strongly ionized plasma channel under DC voltages. The plasma channel was produced by a 45J-CO2 laser pulse and reduced the sparkover voltage of the discharges in 0.5 m air gaps. Gap configurations tested were a rod-rod gap and a rod-sphere gap. For comparison of discharge characteristics under the DC voltage and the impulse voltage, experiments of the laser-guided discharge under a lightning impulse voltage have also been conducted. From these results, it is clarified that the corona discharges prevent the plasma channel form triggering the discharge under the DC voltage.
