Abstract
A grayscale morphological filter has been developed for small target detection in TV tracking applications. Applying morphological open and close respectively, utilizing the property of morphological filter and subtracting the opening result from the closing result pixel by pixel, the algorithm exhibits perfect results in detecting small target in TV images. Represented by the stereo description of images, the performance of the algorithm could be seen intuitively in Section 4. Real TV images with sky, trees as background are tested, and the detection result is satisfactory. Furthermore, this algorithm has the potential of parallel processing, and can solve the problem of polarity reversion in TV tracking applications, which is of great importance in real-time implementation.
