Abstract
This paper reports data of green (549.8 nm) fluorescence and lasing of Erbium (Er3+) doped in Yttrium Orthoaluminate (YAlO3) crystal pumped by near IR light at 8 and 40 degrees Kelvin. The fluorescence amplitude of Er3+ is measured at IR light pump wavelengths between 780 and 820 nm at 8 and 38 degrees Kelvin. Fluorescence peaks are related to the energy diagram of Er3+ and shown to originate from the ground energy state and a meta-stable energy state at 8 degrees Kelvin. Fluorescence peaks resulting from the first excited energy state are also present at 34 degrees Kelvin. The lasing of Er3+ pumped by these peak fluorescence IR wavelengths is measured as a function of pump power at 8 and 40 degrees Kelvin. 600 mW of green laser light are produced from 3 W oif IR pump pouwer indicating 20% lasing conversion efficiencies.
