Abstract
We present an experimental demonstration of an all-optical flip-flop based on mode competition in a polarization-coupled two-energy system. The two energy systems are comprised of a semiconductor optical amplifier and a supercontinuum generator. Adjusting the polarization state of the coupling between the two energy systems allows for a stable cycling between the four states of a flip-flop namely: (off, off); (off, on); (on, off); (on, on). So that, in this case, representing qubit by orthogonal polarization states enables qubit storage and logic operations.
