Abstract
The development, by Dr T. Maiman, in the USA in 1960, of the ruby laser caused that many scientific research workers in Poland, fascinated by this outstanding invention, decided to go deeper in this field of science. Owing to intense research works lead in several Polish centres, a whole range of ruby lasers and helium-neon lasers is developed nearly at the same time.
