Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the implementation of a new kind of image filter, in which the equations of the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process are used in image processing in order to detect the edges of computerized images taken with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners, as a generalization of the standard Gaussian filter. This new filter will be called Ornstein-Uhlenbeck filter (OUF). One of the results obtained after applying the filter to the image, with the variation of the parameter σ is an effective differentiation of the various organs that are next to each other in each one of the resulting images. In addition, the edges of the internal body parts and organs are highlighted efficiently and differentiated from their surroundings.
