Abstract
A new concept of high peak power solid state laser system on the basis of successive amplification of a relatively long pulse (5O-l5Ons) and its effective compression by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) is discussed. Analyses and experiments indicate that the energy fluence for long pulses can be significantly increased. Such laser system can be more effective more simple and less expensive than traditional master oscillator-power amplifier (MOPA) geometry.
