Abstract
Speckle reduction in 3D displays by computational holography is investigated. As the important advantage of holographic 3D display is the capability of high-resolution display of deep 3D scene, the resolution of the image after applying speckle suppression is primarily discussed. Then we present a method for speckle reduction in electronic holographic display based on the recently proposed approach that utilizes time-multiplexing of holograms with sparse object points. The method is adapted to the technique for hologram calculation using ray-sampling plane. It becomes possible to apply speckle suppression to the holographic display of deep 3D scene. It was shown that smaller number of frames for time-multiplexing effectively reduces the speckle noise through the computer simulation. Additionally, angular-multiplexing technique is presented to reduce the number of frames for time-multiplexing, and the experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed speckle suppression.
