Abstract
The near-infrared emission of low phonon (805 cm-1) germanate glasses from GeO2-Ga2O3-BaO system co-doped with 0.7Yb2O3/(0.07-0.7)Ho2O3 ions has been investigated. Luminescence at 2.1 μm corresponding to 5I75I8 transition in holmium was obtained by energy transfer between Yb3+ and Ho3+ ions. The optimization of the activator content and the concentration ratio were conducted with the purpose of maximizing the efficiency of energy transfer and as a consequence luminescence intensity at 2mm. The highest value of the luminescence intensity was obtained in glass codoped with 0.7Yb2O3/0.15 Ho2O3.
