Abstract
Photonics on chip could enable a platform for monolithic integration of optics and microelectronics for applications in which high data streams are required in a small footprint. Recent results in Nanophotonics have shown the ability to guide, filter, bend and split light on Silicon chips using nano-size structures. Using highly confined photonic structures we have demonstrated ultra-compact silicon photonic components with very low loss. The highly confined photonic structures enhance the effective light matter interaction in the structures.
