Optical Telecommunications Technologies and Systems
We demonstrate optical comb generator based on dual drive Mach-Zehnder modulator with tunable output spectrum and
its application in ROF filters. Mathematically it has been shown how to obtain comb spectrum with adjusted number of
harmonics with desired amplitudes and necessary wavelength separation. The results of numerical simulations are presented.

Polarization mode dispersion (PMD), at present, is one of the most meaningful effects, limiting bit rates in both TDMand
WDM-systems, and non-regeneration distance. PMD influence becomes significant for signal quality at bit rates of
more than 10 Gbit/s per channel.
PMD compensators development is in progress now all over the world with using different models, methods and
technologies.
We offer PMD compensation model based on the combination Faraday rotation of optical radiation and LiNbO3-based
differential group delay emulator. Such way presents applied interest because of simplicity of its body of mathematics.

In this paper we discuss unconventional detection technique also known as «full resolution receiver». This receiver uses
Gaussian probability mixtures for interference structure adaptation. Full resolution receiver is alternative to conventional
matched filter receivers in the case of non-Gaussian interferences. For the DS-CDMA forward channel with presence of
complex interferences sufficient performance increasing was shown.

A well-known dense dispersion managed solitons (DDMS) technique is applied to increase bandwidth of metropolitan
area network fiber optic links. This technique requires an installation of optical cables with dispersion compensating
fibers (DCFs), which leads to high costs for upgrading of installed fiber optic links. To become the DDMS more
applicable, we propose to place dispersion compensating module or optical cable delivery lengths with DCFs in optical
fiber closures. Here results of numerical simulations of optical pulse propagation estimation in fiber optic link with
DCFs in optical closures are represented.

In this article present results of measurements for refractive index profile of silica graded multimode optical fibers are
presented. The measurement technique is described. Estimation of parameters for profile defects of investigated
samples of multimode optical fibers is received. Analysis data for effect of profile defects of graded multimode optical
fibers (MMF) on differential mode delay (DMD) is presented.

Method for design silica GeO2-doped graded-index multimode optical fibers 50/125 with low differential mode delay
(DMD) is introduced. It is based on synthesis of special refractive index profile, providing the equalization of guided
mode group velocities. Here the objective function is represented as a sum of squares of deviations between points of
current iteration group velocity map, been calculated over principal mode numbers, and certain reference group velocity
value. The number of guided modes, taken into account, depends on type of laser source and launch conditions. Results
of proposed method approbation for synthesis of multimode optical fiber with low DMD under both VCSEL and singlemode
Fabry-Perot laser excitation with central and offset launch conditions are represented.

Design of differential mode delay compensating microstructured multimode fiber (MMF-DCF) and microstructured
multimode fiber optimized for 0,85 mkm wavelength window which imitate ideal graded refractive index profile of
conventional multimode fiber are presented in this paper. The main feature of the proposed fibers is that they are capable
of being constructed without the need of germanium doping, this type of fibers are known as microstructured fibers. The
axially oriented small air holes, that run the entire fiber length, are configured to provide required refractive index profile
and more focused interaction with selected modes. Results of microstructured multimode fiber and differential mode
delay compensating microstructured multimode fiber design and results of group velocity calculation for selected modes
with full vector finite element method are presented. It is shown that the proposed approach enables the synthesis of
microstructured MMF-DCFs and provides resulting group velocities diagram of the excited modes, close to the desired
optimal.

All-optical microwave filter has been a topic of interest for over two decades because of the many advantageous features
such as large time-bandwidth product, wide tunability, high Q-factor, low loss, light weight, and immunity to electromagnetic
interference offered by photonic devices. All-optical microwave photonic filter is a system used to implement
microwave filtering in the optical domain, which can provide a large tunability and a high Q factor which are usually
difficult to realize through conventional electronic methods. In addition, since the microwave signal is processed directly
in the optical domain without additional optical-electrical and electrical-optical conversions, the photonic microwave
filters are particularly suitable for applications such as optically controlled phased-array antennas, radio-over-fiber (RoF)
systems, and other microwave-photonic links (MPLs). For these reasons, photonic microwave filters have attracted considerable
interest for a few years.

The purpose of the work is the investigation of possible implementation of Ethernet 10 Gbps system (in transport
variation) using on-stream optical fibre transmission lines in the following areas of telecommunication JSC
"Bashinformsvyaz". The chromatic and polarization mode dispersion of optical fibers (OF) is supposed to be a
significant distorting factor in these areas.
The measurements' results of characteristics of the given kinds of dispersion are presented in the report, and also the
theoretical estimation of the distortion level included into the digital signal. According to the results of measurement and
theoretical estimation the correspondent conclusions were introduced.

Physical simulation of optical fiber cladding defects and experimental investigation results are described in present
paper. By these results it is confirmed that assumption about fiber light-guide cladding defects localization on short
length of optical fiber by comparison polarization backscattering characteristic with sliding correlation test is correct.
Samples of defects localization on less then 2 km optical fiber with less then 100 m error are represented.

In this paper the principles of polarization optical time domain reflectometry and features of developed POTDR
prototype model are described. The approbation of methods for analysis of POTDR trace on experimental setup was
carried out. The results of field inspection of fiber optical communication lines including measurements of chromatic
dispersion and polarization mode dispersion are represented. Specificities of localization of fiber section with high level
of polarization mode dispersion using PODTR are noted.

In article results of experimental researches of incrementation of attenuation in an optical fiber at deformation of loose
tubes are presented. The loose tubes with 4, 8, 12 fibers made from polybutyleneterephthalate were exposed to tests. It is
shown that critical value of deformation of a loose tube at which registered incrementation of attenuation exceeds
threshold value of losses (0,05 dB), changes depending on the square of the area of cross section of loose tube without
fibers practically under the linear principle. The received results of researches can be used for the forecast of optical
cable stability to influence of crushing loadings.

In article results of experimental researches of optical cable behavior in microducts at water freezing are presented. Researches were
carried out with the polymeric and steel microducts. Researches have shown that loadings which influence on a cable at water freezing
in the steel microduct is higher than in polymeric and can lead to attenuation increase in the optical fiber. In the polymeric duct
loadings more low, than in the steel. However if a polymeric microduct freeze in ice, pressure upon a cable as can cause an
incrementation of attenuation.
