I will describe ra novel nonlinear material---an ultrathin time-varying semiconductor metasurface---that exhibits efficient blue-shifting of mid-IR photons [1]. The observed signature of such "photon acceleration" is third-harmonic generation with tunable frequencies and bandwidth. Several applications will be discussed, including resolving the bandwidth/efficiency paradigm in nonlinear optics using time-varying metasurfaces.
