9 September 2019 Diffraction gratings with two orders of magnitude-enhanced dispersion rate for sub-meV-resolution soft x-ray spectroscopy (Conference Presentation)

Abstract
Large angular dispersion rate of the diffraction gratings is essential for the high spectral resolution of the grating spectrometers. The greatest challenge is achieving the desired performance of the diffraction gratings at short wavelengths. Here we show that crystals can function as high-reflectance soft x-ray diffraction gratings with dispersion rates at least two orders of magnitude larger than what is presently possible with state-of-the-art man-made gratings. This may open up new opportunities in designing and implementing soft x-ray resonant inelastic scattering (RIXS) spectrometers with spectral resolution improved by up to two orders of magnitude, which may further advance a very dynamic filed of the RIXS spectroscopy.
