Abstract
We present two approaches to capture and visualize a volumetric ultrasound dataset. One is a straightforward one degree-of-freedom method. The other employs a six degree-of-freedom electromagnetic tracking device attached to the ultrasound transducer. Using an efficient incremental algorithm the 3-D volume is reconstructed from the acquired arbitrarily oriented and positioned sections. The 3-D volume is visualized and manipulated using the VolVis and MediView volume visualization systems.
