Abstract
The generic model-based diagnostic system (GMODS) can use VHSIC hardware description language (VHDL) design models of structure and behavior to diagnose faults within digital sequential circuits. To produce a diagnosis, GMODS makes assumptions about the diagnostic health of each circuit component, propagates values through the design model over multiple clock intervals, and compares predicted and observed output values to identify sets of assumptions that explain the observations. In this paper, we describe the overall GMODS approach and project results, with an emphasis on the GMODS modeling techniques and VHDL interface. We also examine remaining issues to be addressed before GMODS can be applied on real applications.
