Abstract

The NCl-I laser has been demonstrated using HN₃ as a fuel. In this paper, we discuss the possibility of constructing a NCl(a¹Δ)-I transfer laser using NCl₃ as a fuel. Not only is NCl₃ more stable, but also may eliminate the requirement for a combustor. We present kinetic modeling and some initial results of experiments designed to understand the basic physical processes in this system.
