Abstract
Microscopic descriptions from recently developed many-electron theory of second and third order nonlinear optical susceptibilities are reviewed for several important conjugated organic structures. Electron correlation effects result in a symmetry controlled mechanism of highly correlated, charge separation in n-electron densities during virtual excitation processes.
