Everyone Can Be Your Mentor: An interview with Sona Hosseini
Abstract

Sona Hosseini is a research and instrument scientist at the Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in Pasadena, California. She traces her interest in science back to a life-changing field trip to a NASA center planetarium when she was seven years old in elementary school. She has been enamored with astronomy ever since and decided to make astronomy her career.

Sona earned her BS in physics from the University of Isfahan and an MS in physics and astronomy from the University of Zanjan, both in Iran. She also has an MS and PhD in engineering applied science from the University of California, Davis. After completing her PhD, she took her current position at JPL, where she leads a team developing spectroscopy instrumentation for space missions that will study the role of water in solar system formation.
