HIVE: A New Architecture for Space
Abstract
Having been an active participant throughout the “space age era,” The Aerospace Corporation assembled a team of technical experts and started from a clean slate to develop a new space architecture concept and the types of systems that could reside therein. HIVE (not an acronym) is one such product. It receives its inspiration from nature, namely, atomic chemistry, molecular chemistry, and cellular biology. This chapter presents a snapshot of the concept, which is supported by engineering analysis. It describes some of the critical elements to standing up a space architecture that is adaptable, highly resilient, and continually upgradeable.
