Abstract

We propose a broadband bismuth-erbium co-doped fiber amplifier (BEDFA) that utilizes a bismuth-erbium co-doped fiber (BEDF) as the gain medium. The amplifier utilizes a simple bidirectional pumping configuration and a shorter length of BEDF to achieve signal amplification in the C+L band. The BEDFA achieves signal amplification within a 90 nm bandwidth, spanning from 1530 to 1620 nm, with an input signal power of 30 dBm, and achieves a maximum gain of 23.261 dB at 1555 nm. In summary, our proposed BEDFA demonstrates significant potential for telecommunication applications in cost-effective and compact fiber amplifiers, as well as high-capacity fiber transmission system.
