Study on diffracted stray light by the external occulter for a solar extreme ultraviolet coronagraph

Solar activity is the source of variations in the solar-terrestrial space environment and disturbs the Earth's magnetic field in various forms. The corona is the most active region of the sun, and its impact on the earth and human beings is also the most intense. The temperature of the corona is 2~3 orders of magnitude higher than the temperature of the photosphere in its inner layer, and the reason how it heats has constantly been a mystery in the field of solar physics. Direct imaging observations of the corona are of great significance for the study of coronal mass ejection (CME) and coronal heating mechanisms. Measurement of the abundance of elemental helium, which is the largest contributor to the density of the coronal plasma next only to hydrogen, could further study the corona and understand the origin and acceleration mechanism of the solar wind sufficiently, however, implementing high-precision measurement of helium abundance on the global scale currently is a severe technical challenge. In this paper, the helium abundance of the sun served as the research object, comparing the international mainstream coronagraph models and basic optical architecture, designed an extreme ultraviolet external occulter (EO) coronagraph, which has a field of view of 1.4~4R☉, with a working wave of 30.4nm for observing helium abundance, aperture of 40mm, focal length of 420mm, and spatial resolution of 7.37arcsec.In this paper, the diffraction of stray light caused by the external occulter of the coronagraph system is studied. Aiming at the external occulter of a single disk and a triple disk, The uniform boundary wave theory is used to study the theory, and the simulation experiments are carried out. it is obtained that the external occulter of a triple disk can effectively reduce the diffraction intensity by 2 ~ 3 orders of magnitude compared with the external occulter of a single disk. On the basis that the external occulter is a triple disk, a method to suppress the diffracted stray light is proposed in this paper, by which the diffraction stray light is blocked by the feasible design of the position and size of the inner occulter (IO). The diffraction stray light formed by the aperture opening of the heat rejection mirror is also suppressed, to suppress the diffracted light of the coronagraph system effectively, which lays an excellent foundation for the prototype production of coronagraph and the experimental measurement of stray light in the immediate future.

The monochromator has been widely used in the field of optical precision measurement. It can effectively separate the monochromatic light of the specific wavelength required for the experiment from a complex spectrum and a continuous spectrum light source. The wavelength accuracy of a monochromator is an important indicator of its performance，and the research of wavelength accuracy calibration methods to improve measurement accuracy is a hot theme for researchers around the world.When the monochromator is utilized for calibrating the wavelength in the ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared region, low-pressure discharged lamps, such as mercury lamps and neon lamps, are usually used to calibrate on the well-known limited atomic emission lines of lamp to obtain the wavelength deviation value at the wavelength points of these lines.For some high-precision requirements, for example, when measuring the spectral responsivity of a reference solar cell using a tunable laser as light source, it is difficult for these discrete and finite lines to fully satisfy the demand.To solve this problem, a new method based on combination of continuous spectrum light source and fourier transform spectroradiometer was used. A calibrated experimental optical path was successfully built, and the wavelength deviation values of 322 wavelength points from 400 nm to 2000 nm were obtained. The optimal measurement repeatability reached 0.3 pm, which met the need for high-precision measurement requirement. As a comparison, a low-pressure discharged lamp method was also used. Using a mercury lamp and a neon lamp, a wavelength calibration experiment was performed on the same monochromator in the same wavelength range, and only 20 wavelength deviation values were obtained at its atomic emission lines wavelength point. The number of wavelength deviation values is less than 6.5% of that of the new method.The new method proposed in this paper,which not only can significantly improve the quality of the monochromator calibration wavelength deviation values, but in which the obtained values are able to establish traceability to the international SI unit system, is an ideal wavelength accuracy calibration method.

Conformal optical domes are characterized as having external more elongated optical surfaces that are optimized to minimize drag, increased missile velocity and extended operational range. The outer surface of the conformal domes typically deviate greatly from spherical surface descriptions, so the inherent asymmetry of conformal surfaces leads to variations in the aberration content presented to the optical sensor as it is gimbaled across the field of regard, which degrades the sensor's ability to properly image targets of interest and then undermine the overall system performance. Consequently, the aerodynamic advantages of conformal domes cannot be realized in practical systems unless the dynamic aberration correction techniques are developed to restore adequate optical imaging capabilities. Up to now, many optical correction solutions have been researched in conformal optical design, including static aberrations corrections and dynamic aberrations corrections. There are three parts in this paper. Firstly, the combination of static and dynamic aberration correction is introduced. A system for correcting optical aberration created by a conformal dome has an outer surface and an inner surface. The optimization of the inner surface is regard as the static aberration correction; moreover, a deformable mirror is placed at the position of the secondary mirror in the two-mirror all reflective imaging system, which is the dynamic aberration correction. Secondly, the using of appropriate surface types is very important in conformal dome design. Better performing optical systems can result from surface types with adequate degrees of freedom to describe the proper corrector shape. Two surface types and the methods of using them are described, including Zernike polynomial surfaces used in correct elements and user-defined surfaces used in deformable mirror (DM). Finally, the Adaptive optics (AO) correction is presented. In order to correct the dynamical residual aberration in conformal optical design, the SPGD optimization algorithm is operated at each zoom position to calculate the optimized surface shape of the MEMS DM. The communication between MATLAB and Code V established via ActiveX technique is applied in simulation analysis.
