Optical communication is widely applied and continues evolving. Embedded optics is focused on by a lot of companies for datacom application. Then some associations have started to discuss implementation of it as COBO (On-Board Optics), CPO (Co-packaged Optics) and NPO (near package Optics). Even in consumer application, Active Optical Cable (AOC) is gradually utilized for TVs and head mount devices. These trends require that the optical transmission products must have better performance and be more user friendly.
In this presentation, I would like to introduce a new plastic optical fiber (POF) and an optical waveguide with a flexible printed circuit (OFPC) both of which Nitto has been developing. They can contribute higher data rate including multi-level modulation, stronger against bending, downsizing modules and higher density optical packages.
