Profile Summary

Carlos Marques received the M.S. degree and the Ph.D. degree in Physics Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 2008 and 2013, respectively. From 2007 to March 2014, he was a Research Fellow at Instituto de Telecomunicações, Aveiro, Portugal. Then, he was a Marie Curie Fellow in the Aston Institute of Photonics Technologies, Aston University, Birmingham, U.K until March 2016. Currently, he is a Research Scientist in the Physics Department & I3N, University of Aveiro, Portugal. His main interests include photonics devices and fabrication of short/long period gratings for optical communications and sensing applications. He authored or co-authored more than 90 journals and 85 conference technical papers with emphasis on optical communications and sensing applications. He participated in more than 15 research projects and he also acts as referee of several high level international journals from IEEE, Elsevier, OSA, Nature, AIP, IOP, SPIE, MDPI, Wiley, among others. He is also an Associate Editor of IEEE Sensors Journal and Optical Fiber Technology (Elsevier), and an Editorial Member of MDPI Sensors and Journal of Sensors.
