Prof. Marcelo Vieira is Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Sao Carlos School of Engineering, University of Sao Paulo (Brazil). With 25 years of experience in signal processing research, he has specific training and expertise in developing image processing methods to enhance the quality of medical images. Prof. Vieira has been a leading investigator in numerous studies focusing on the assessment of clinical imaging systems and the development of image processing methods to improve image quality. He serves as the Director of the Laboratory of Computer Vision at the University of Sao Paulo. His research interests lie in the areas of image processing and artificial intelligence applied to clinical imaging, mainly in the following subjects: digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, magnetic resonance imaging, image processing, image restoration, denoising, noise modeling, noise simulation for medical images, radiation dose reduction, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neural networks, deep learning and computer aided diagnosis (CAD) systems.
