The Far InfraRed Spectroscopic Surveyor (FIRSS) is a novel concept for an astrophysics satellite mission that will revolutionise our understanding of the life cycle of the ISM and its role in the onset of star formation in our Galaxy and external galaxies. FIRSS will
carry out large scale spectroscopic surveys in a number of discreet spectroscopic channels centred on important atomic, ionic and molecular species not accessible from the ground that will allow us to study the phase structure of the ISM.
The FIRSS concept uses a multi-terahertz heterodyne payload and a ~2 m primary antenna to scan the infrared/submm sky from L2.
