Asynchronous Detectors (ADs) are an emerging technology with the potential to improve the dynamic range, latency, bandwidth needs, and power requirements of military imaging systems. These capabilities are especially important to the effectiveness of digital imagers for Soldier mobility and autonomous systems. Similar to the functionality of the human visual system, ADs ignore the redundancy of static portions in the scene, only recording temporal changes. When coupled with motion, both spatial and temporal variations of a scene can be observed. Using simulated data, the performance of AD based imaging systems are compared to traditional synchronous, full-frame imaging systems. This work outlines a methodology to determine if this emerging technology has significant potential for Soldier mobility and autonomous applications.
